Why I Cut Combat from this Episode
I chose to have no real combat in Xanax for Breakfast even though one of the first mechanics we made was shooting. You can still stomp on some enemies to kill them but only by standing on top of them for a number of seconds.
My reasoning behind this was that I wanted to maintain a sense of realism, and because the player is traversing a nightmarish version of LA, I didn't want their to be the option to constantly shoot at things. I want the user to engage the environment as a victim not an aggressor. Similar to Amnesia: The Dark Descent, you can't really fight back aside from your stomp ability. But even stomping is bad because it causes anxiety - every time something bad happens you gain anxiety, so you have to constantly find more Xanax to stop from going insane.
